The journey commences with an early morning transfer from Srinagar to Doodhpathri, a captivating 55-kilometer drive that unfolds over approximately two hours. As the fresh morning air invigorates the senses, we arrive at Doodhpathri, where we will collect our packed lunches in preparation for the day ahead. A thorough briefing will be provided by the trek leader, outlining the route and setting the stage for the first day of our adventure. The terrain on this initial day is gentle, making for a leisurely yet exhilarating introduction to the trek. Our path begins amidst the vast, emerald meadows of Doodhpathri, where we’ll cross the sparkling Dhoodhganga River before embarking on a gradual ascent through a serene forest. This climb, lasting around 2 to 3 hours at a comfortable pace, is soothing yet invigorating. The trail is well-marked, winding steadily upwards until we rise above the tree line, where a stunning panoramic vista opens up at Diskhal Meadow—a tranquil expanse of lush, undulating greenery. From this point onward, the meadows will become our constant companions, their beauty and serenity providing an unforgettable backdrop for the days ahead. As we make our way into the heart of the meadow, we’ll encounter a small shepherd settlement nestled among the grasses, offering a rare glimpse into the timeless, harmonious existence of the region’s pastoral life. The simplicity and charm of this settlement add a rustic touch to the landscape, making it feel as though we’ve stepped into a world untouched by the passage of time. Upon reaching the campsite, nestled peacefully in the embrace of nature’s grandeur, we’ll be treated to a well-deserved respite. The evening will begin with refreshing cups of tea, accompanied by a selection of delightful snacks. As the cool mountain air sets in, a warm, soul-soothing soup will follow, preparing us for a hearty dinner. The meal, prepared with care and local flavor, will be a feast for both the senses and the soul. To end the evening on a sweet note, we will indulge in a delectable dessert, adding a touch of sweetness to the tranquil night beneath the stars. Mountains are the beginning and the end of all natural scenery,” said John Ruskin, and here, amidst the pristine landscapes of Doodhpathri and Diskhal Meadow, one can truly experience the profound truth of this sentiment. This trek promises not only a journey through spectacular terrain but also a journey into the very soul of nature itself.

On this day, we commence our ascent toward the next campsite, embracing the rhythm of our established routine. Our day begins with the soft chime of an early wake-up call at 6 am, followed by a nourishing breakfast at 7 am, and departure from the campsite promptly by 8 am. This early start allows us to evade the oppressive midday heat, ensuring we reach our next destination with ample time to relax and acclimatize. Before we set forth, the trek leader will provide a brief orientation, offering insight into the day's journey. A packed lunch will be provided at Diskal, our resting point before continuing on. As we trek through the Ashtar Valley, a breathtaking expanse nestled at the foot of Mt. Tatakoti, you will be surrounded by the awe-inspiring Pir Panjal Range, where Tatakoti reigns as the highest peak. As we traverse the valley, you may catch a glimpse of the Shali Ganga River flowing gracefully through the landscape, eventually joining the Doodh Ganga River near Wathoora. The river originates from the Ashtar Glacier, visible to your right as we progress through the valley. In the month of July, the valley comes alive with a vibrant carpet of yellow and red blooms. The final stretch to our campsite is a leisurely 2 km walk through this stunning terrain. Upon arrival at the campsite, you will have the opportunity to unwind and savor a refreshing cup of evening tea accompanied by light snacks. As dusk falls, a warm, comforting soup will be served, followed by a delectable dinner, complemented by a sweet treat to conclude the evening. The nights in the mountains are often a dazzling display of stars, provided the weather remains clear, making it the perfect opportunity for stargazing and immersing yourself in the breathtaking beauty of the night sky.

The day unfolds much like the previous one, beginning with a 6 am wake-up call, followed by breakfast at 7 am, and departure from the campsite by 8 am. This early start ensures we avoid the midday heat, reach the next campsite promptly, and have ample time for rest and acclimatization. After breakfast, your trek leader will provide a brief briefing before we set out on the day's journey. A packed lunch will be provided to fuel us throughout today’s trek. While the trek to Gurwansar Lake is relatively easy, the gradual yet lengthy ascents can be somewhat tiring. Along the way, you'll pass through lush meadows and cross several rivers, all surrounded by dense pine forests—truly a sight to behold. This section of the trek is also an excellent opportunity to spot a variety of birds, including the Golden Oriole, and witness shepherds guiding their flocks of sheep and lambs. As we climb, we’ll enter the cloud cover, offering a surreal and ethereal experience. As we approach the lake, snow patches may begin to appear, depending on the time of year. Gurwansar Lake itself lies nestled in the heart of a meadow. In May, the meadow is adorned with vibrant floral blooms, especially Irish flowers, while a stream flows from the lake, cutting through the valley and creating a picturesque scene. In winter, the lake freezes over. To the right, you'll be treated to a sweeping panoramic view of the Ashtar Valley we’ve crossed to reach this tranquil destination. We will camp by the lakeside tonight, surrounded by a rich variety of herbs such as Saussurea costus, Taraxacum officinale, and Rheum Emodi. This campsite offers an enchanting setting to relax and take in its beauty. Upon arrival, we’ll settle into camp, where we'll be greeted with evening tea and snacks, followed by a warm, comforting soup. As the day comes to a close, we’ll enjoy a hearty dinner, with a sweet treat to conclude the evening on a delicious note.

Today, we embark on our journey with the same familiar routine: a wake-up call at 6 a.m., breakfast at 7 a.m., and departure from the campsite by 8 a.m. This early start allows us to beat the heat of the midday sun, ensuring we arrive at the next campsite in good time to unwind and properly acclimatize. Before setting off, a packed lunch will be provided to sustain you throughout the day’s trek. The route from Gurwansar campsite to Duriem spans 9 kilometers, and given the distance and the moderate difficulty of the trail, we will begin our trek as early as possible. The path will lead you along the western slope of Gurwansar Lake, passing through Pamsar Lake on the way to Duriem. Roughly 20 minutes into the trek, you will encounter a bouldered section, which adds an exhilarating touch of adventure to the journey. However, this section requires a fair level of fitness and agility, as some of the rocks may be loose and could disrupt your balance. Take care as you navigate the boulders, and after a gradual ascent, Pamsar Lake will reveal itself. The lake, vast in size, will not be immediately visible in its entirety, but as you approach, its beauty gradually unfolds. The tranquil ambiance surrounding the lake offers a perfect opportunity to pause and reflect in peaceful solitude before continuing the trek. From the lake, the ascent continues up a ridge towards Duriem. The route involves crossing another boulder section before reaching a ledge, from where you will continue climbing until you reach the ridge’s summit. Once atop, you will begin your descent towards Duriem. Before reaching the campsite, a refreshing stream crossing awaits, a welcome respite after a challenging day of trekking. Upon crossing the stream, we will set up camp. At the campsite, you’ll be greeted with a cup of evening tea accompanied by snacks, followed by a comforting bowl of soup. Dinner will be served, concluding with a delightful sweet treat to end the day. After such a long and rewarding day, be sure to rest well and recharge for tomorrow’s adventures.

As is customary, our day begins with the gentle chime of a 6 a.m. wake-up call, followed by a nourishing breakfast at 7 a.m., and we’ll set off from the campsite by 8 a.m. After breakfast, your trek leader will provide a brief overview of the day’s adventure, preparing you for what promises to be a day full of both challenge and wonder. Today, we’ll embark on a journey that introduces not one, but five breathtaking lakes, each a jewel nestled among the peaks. We commence the day early, as we begin our ascent toward the first lake. The trail takes us upwards for approximately 2.5 km, leading us to a junction where we leave the main trail behind. From here, we begin our trek toward the Bodhsar Lake viewpoint, which lies about half a kilometer to the left. Standing at this vantage point, you’ll have an expansive view of the Duriem campsite below, along with the shimmering waters of Tratsar Lake—also known as Lokutsar Lake. As the mountains whisper their timeless wisdom, we’re reminded of a famous saying: "The mountains are calling, and I must go." It is here, amidst nature’s grandeur, that the soul truly awakens. After savoring the stunning panorama, we return to the point where our journey toward Bodhsar Lake began. Now, our path shifts, leading us through a boulder-strewn section that soon steepens. This challenging ascent continues for about a kilometer, eventually revealing a flat ridge that offers an awe-inspiring view of the lakes ahead. This scenic haven allows us to pause and appreciate the vastness of the landscape, the serene waters reflecting the grandeur of the surrounding peaks. After a moment to drink in the beauty, we descend from the ridge, only to begin another ascent that will lead us to the elusive Damamsar Lake. The highest point of this ridge reveals a sweeping bird’s-eye view, not just of Damamsar Lake, but also of the twin Navkansar I and II lakes. It is a sight so captivating that it lingers in the memory long after the moment has passed. These lakes, born from the melting snow that crowns the towering mountains, are nature’s art in its purest form. As we linger here, allowing the magnificence to settle in our hearts, we’ll begin our descent toward the Gadtar campsite. The trek through this picturesque valley will lead us to the serene Gadtar Campsite, a peaceful retreat nestled in the embrace of nature. Once there, we’ll be greeted with a soothing cup of tea and snacks, followed by a warm, comforting soup. The evening culminates with a hearty dinner, and to finish the day on a sweet note, a delectable dessert awaits, a perfect close to this unforgettable journey.

Buffer day or Rest day, thoughtfully built into the itinerary to allow for recovery or to account for any unforeseen delays, such as inclement weather. If we encounter a rainy day or any other reason requiring us to adjust the schedule, this day serves as a backup to ensure we stay on track. The day is to rest and recuperate, allowing everyone to recharge before continuing with the trek. One may choose to bask in the sun, read a book, swim in the nearby waters, meditate, or simply reflect on the journey thus far. It's also a perfect opportunity to soak in the beauty of your surroundings and explore the region around the campsite at a leisurely pace. Breakfast will be served at a leisurely time, allowing you to fully rest and enjoy the morning. Later in the day, we will have a hot lunch, followed by evening tea with snacks, soup, dinner, and a sweet dish. This day offers a much-needed respite in the midst of the trek, allowing everyone to relax and fully enjoy the serene beauty of the landscape, both physically and mentally.

As we embark on the final day of our trek, we begin with an early breakfast at 7:00 am, setting off by 8:00 am for the longest stretch of our journey. A packed lunch will accompany us for the day. With the mountains in our sights, we start early, for today is a day of considerable distance. The day begins with a breathtaking river crossing, after which we begin our steady ascent to a grassy ledge. Along the way, we’ll encounter a few stream crossings, winding our path through alternating ascents and descents, maintaining a consistent altitude as we near the top of the ridge. As we reach the peak, the descent towards the second river crossing begins, followed by a winding, muddy trail that connects us to the Tosa Maidan region. "The mountains are calling, and I must go"—a sentiment echoed as we follow this trail, where a refreshing water source and our third stream crossing await. This marks the last leg of the trek, a moment to pause and reflect before continuing. The descent leads us into the Tosa Maidan, where the landscape unfolds before us—a stunning vista that is nothing short of mesmerizing, a true feast for the soul. After a brief ascent of 200 meters, a U-turn brings us back onto the descending path, leading us toward the diversion. As we follow the trail, we soon reach the road head, where the signals of the outside world reappear, and mobile networks are restored. From this point, we are transported back to Srinagar, marking the end of our unforgettable adventure through the mountains, a journey of 80 km that will take approximately 3 hours. This is the conclusion of the Doodhpathri–Tosamaidan Trek—a finale that encapsulates the essence of both the journey and the magnificent landscapes that have accompanied us.
